If you had to sum up your life philosophy in one sentence, what would it be?
If I had to sum up my life philosophy in one sentence, it would be this: leave room in your life for impossible dreams.
For a long time, I thought dreams only mattered if they became reality. The goal was to achieve them, cross them off a list, and move on to the next one. But somewhere along the way, I realized that some of the dreams that shaped me most were the ones that never happened. They lived quietly in the background of my life, asking for nothing except a little space in my imagination.
I’ve dreamed about lives that probably aren’t meant for me. A life in the countryside surrounded by nature. Long train journeys through landscapes I’ve only seen in photographs. Creative projects that existed only in notebooks and daydreams. Most of them never became anything tangible, yet they still changed me. They made me curious. They made ordinary days feel bigger. They reminded me that there are always more possibilities than the ones directly in front of me.
We are often taught to think of dreams as destinations. If we reach them, we succeed. If we don’t, we have somehow failed. I don’t see them that way anymore. Some dreams are not destinations at all. They are companions. They travel alongside us, colouring the way we see the world. A dream doesn’t have to come true to add something beautiful to your life.
When I look back, I realize I don’t only treasure the things I accomplished. I treasure the things I imagined. The places I wanted to visit, the hobbies I wanted to learn, the versions of myself I briefly pictured becoming. Those dreams gave me comfort on difficult days, excitement on ordinary ones, and a sense that life was always wider than my current circumstances.
Maybe that is why I continue to collect dreams without worrying so much about whether they will happen. They remind me that wonder is valuable in its own right. They keep me hopeful, curious, and open to surprise. In a world that constantly asks us to be practical, there is something quietly rebellious about allowing yourself to dream anyway.
So if I had to describe my philosophy in a single sentence, it would be this: leave room in your life for impossible dreams. Not because they will all come true, but because they make the journey richer while you’re on your way.
